Developing yourself

HumanBean is all about developing your children, but most of the learning comes from 'guru's' and life coaches who help adults be the best they can be in life and business.

‘The greatest gift you can give to somebody is your own personal development. I used to say, 'If you will take care of me, I will take care of you.' Now I say, 'I will take care of me for you, if you will take care of you for me.’
Jim Rohn

This is a great quote from Jim Rohn. Simply put, it means that if we become more effective in ourselves, we become more valuable to others. This is just one of the many key principles which we believe should be taught to young children.

Adult resources

There are many coaches and advisors in the field of self-development but we really like the following:

Jim Rohn: Already mentioned above, Jim Rohn has been a leader in this field for many years and has built a huge library of life changing resources. He also provides resources to support Parents. Specifically, 'Raising Kids in a Negative World' and 'Raising Confident Kids'. We hope to get his permission to promote these products on this site. Watch this space!

Sean Covey: Sean is Steven Covey's son and brings 'The 7 Habits' to young kids through his book 'The 7 habits of Happy Kids'. This book is great for kids aged 4-6 as an introduction to the habits of successful people. This would be a great book for kids too young for The Star Dragon.

Robin Sharma: Robin Sharma has a wonderful tone of voice and a great attitude to life. He is the author of 'The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari' and other motivational titles. His free resources include videos, ebooks and podcasts and we highly recommend them to you. If we're ever feeling down, a 2 minute podcast from Robin gets us up and running again!

There are so many names we could include in this list, but we try to focus on people who can offer resources to young children. This list will grow. Please do let us know about any great material which supports our mission and we will feature it on this site. Thanks.

How can we prepare our kids for success in life?

Most people agree that a good education is the most effective way to ensure that our children get the best start in life. Our schools mostly do a great job of teaching them language, social and academic skills, but they are target driven and often measured against exam success. This means less time in the school day for 'life skills'.

Any good life or business coach will tell you that academic achievement is not the most important factor for a successful life. Successful people have a different mental attitude. They believe they will be successful, and and it becomes a self-fulfilling profecy;

“If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’'' be right.”
Henry Ford

Success factors

Some believe that success in life is down to destiny, genetics, parenting, luck etc. Successful people, however, know that life is a the result of our Beliefs, our Attitudes and our Behaviors.  These are the most significant requirements for a successful life - whatever 'success' might mean to you.

Isn't this a bit early for this kind of learning?

'Early experiences greatly influence the way a person develops. Everyone who works with children has an awesome responsibility for the future of those children. The activities you do with them from birth to age 10 will determine how their learning patterns develop.' Susan Jindrich

The very best time to embed these attitudes and behaviors is in their early years when they already believe that anything is possible and their optimism is at its peak. Most 'life skills' coaching is designed for adults and much of it seeks to undo the bad habits learnt early in life.

Why wait?

Taking action

Our children's early years pass quickly, ask any parent with kids in College, and the best time to provide them with strong foundations for life is between birth and 11 years. Once they are into their teens their lives become more complex and our ability to influence them has significantly diminished.

If you feel that your child could benefit from this learning, then have a look at the resources we can offer and try it out. We have tried to make 'The Star Dragon' as accessible as possible and will continue to offer multiple ways to access this learning in future.

Thank you
